English version

Today is day 4 of the “Flat and Boring” triology in 4 parts and we are early on track. So we can see the village in the morning. Not early in the morning, the kids are already in school (last school day), but all the adults seem to be out and about, e.g. on the way to the supermarket, and quite a few of them are using the bicycle – on a road without a bike lane or sidewalk.

A few villages down the road I refill our water supply at the supermarket while Ulrich is asked for advice: a gentleman worked in Germany for a few years and now got his tax assessment and they demand additional payment of taxes. Even if his German is really good, German legalese is a whole different story…

And finally the bridge at Ruse. It was built in the 1950ies and contrary to that at Widin it only has 1 lane per direction and no bike lane. Before you enter the passport control lanes you drive over a grid and some disinfectant (against African swine fever?) is sprayed on your car’s tires. No excuse for cyclists – our tires a now aseptic, and so are our shoes and calves.
